10 More Excuses Better Than “The Check is in the Mail”
Yes, we have all heard the classic “the check is in the mail.” If you thought the last ten were good excuses, just wait until you read these. Oh the stories we hear, and the excuses we are given this time…
1) “Why have you not called me before the payment was due to tell me the payment was due?”
2) “I made the check out to my sales rep from the company, so they can just pay you on my behalf.”
3) “The person I used to deal with would always just issue a credit so I didn’t have to pay the invoices.”
4) “The previous owner said they didn’t send me this invoice, so why would I pay you?”
5) “Those invoices were from the previous month, and we already closed the books for that month.”
6) “We already paid for those invoices in golf lessons.” (This somehow happened twice.)
7) “I already tried to pay you, and your bank rejected my check.”
8) “I’m getting really tired of you calling and asking for money all the time, acting like I am supposed to pay for all these invoices.”
9) “I’d be willing to do more business with you, if you were not always calling and asking me to pay all the time.”
10) “I’m new here, and just the backup for the AP person. I don’t have any answers for you.” (This was the owner of the business.)
You really can’t make this stuff up. What are some of the best excuses you have heard from customers?
